To promote energy conservation, improve energy efficiency, and protect and improve the environment, the Ministry of Finance has formulated the "Interim Measures for the Management of Subsidy Funds for Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction." The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) yesterday released the 2014 handling of reports received via the "12369" environmental hotline. The number of cases handled in 2014 decreased by 497 compared to 2013. However, the proportion of reports related to air pollution increased instead of decreasing, and the increase was larger than in 2013. The MEP's explanation for the increase in air pollution reports in 2014 is that pollution from water and solid waste is more easily perceived as air pollution; investigations revealed that 64% of cases with environmental violations involved actual air pollution.
