Hydroprocessing technology refers to the process technology that improves the quality of oil products or obtains target products by reacting raw oil with hydrogen under certain temperature and hydrogen pressure through the catalytic action of a catalyst.

With the increasingly stringent requirements for clean fuel production and environmental protection, the proportion of hydroprocessing units in refineries is increasing, and their status is becoming increasingly prominent.

Hydroprocessing includes residue hydroprocessing, hydrocracking, hydrotreating, and hydroprocessing; by the end of 2013, Sinopec had more than 200 sets of various hydroprocessing units, with a total processing capacity of 224.9 million tons per year;

In the field of hydroprocessing catalysts in Sinopec, SINOPEC Research Institute of Petroleum and Fushun Research Institute account for most of the market share. Among them, Fushun Research Institute and SINOPEC Research Institute each account for about 50% of the residue hydroprocessing market share; Fushun Research Institute is the main player in the hydrocracking field, while SINOPEC Research Institute and Fushun Research Institute share the distillate hydrotreating market at a ratio of 4:6. SINOPEC Research Institute is the main player in the lubricating oil hydrotreating market, while Fushun Research Institute occupies most of the solvent oil refining catalyst market.
