Ministry of Environmental Protection: Review and approval in principle of the "National List of Hazardous Wastes (Draft Amendment)"
Release time:
30 Mar,2016
Minister Chen Jining, head of the Ministry of Environmental Protection, chaired a ministry meeting today, reviewing and approving in principle the "National Hazardous Waste List (Revised Draft)".
The meeting noted that since 2001, the annual generation of industrial hazardous waste in China has increased substantially, with numerous categories and complex properties. The existing "National Hazardous Waste List" can no longer meet the needs of effective hazardous waste management,
It is necessary to revise the list according to regulations such as the "Law on the Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution by Solid Waste," addressing issues exposed during the implementation of the list. This revision, based on the research results of recent environmental protection projects, emphasizes dynamic, practical, continuous, and operational principles.
While maintaining the basic framework of the "National Hazardous Waste List," the revision adjusts the scope of hazardous waste management, adds an exemption list for hazardous waste management, clarifies identification standards and technical specifications, specifies the identification procedure, and puts forward requirements for the construction of hazardous waste identification capabilities. The meeting decided that after further revision, the "National Hazardous Waste List (Revised Draft)" will be jointly issued and implemented by relevant national departments.
The meeting also discussed other matters. Vice Ministers Li Ganjie, Huang Runqiu, and Zhai Qing, and Chief Engineer Zhao Yingmin attended the meeting. Principal officials from various departments of the Ministry attended the meeting as well.
