Recently, it was learned from the Xiamen Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau that Xiamen will build a new automobile dismantling and processing base in Xiang'an. Upon completion, it will be able to dismantle and process 30,000 scrapped vehicles annually, with a total investment of 65 million yuan and an estimated completion date before the end of the year. Currently, the project is in the environmental impact assessment (EIA) public announcement phase.

It is understood that the project is located at No. 599, Xinxia South Road, Xinhu Town, Xiang'an District, within the West Zone of the Oasis Resource Recycling Industrial Park, covering a total area of 28,200 square meters.

The base will directly sell or entrust qualified units to dispose of independent components such as waste batteries, electronic and electrical parts, and tires removed from scrapped vehicles; large metal parts such as the car body will be crushed, sorted, and sold.

It is understood that at the beginning of 2015, the number of motor vehicles in Xiamen exceeded 1.2 million. Comparing this to developed countries with a vehicle scrapping rate of 6%-8%, Xiamen has more than 80,000 scrapped vehicles annually, and this number will continue to rise year by year. Currently, only two companies in Xiamen are qualified to dismantle and recycle scrapped vehicles, and their dismantling sites and capabilities are limited. The total annual dismantling capacity of the two companies is less than 40,000 vehicles.

According to relevant regulations, operating taxis, large buses, and private cars cannot apply for subsidies when scrapped. In terms of service life, according to regulations, there is no limit to the service life of private cars (small and micro passenger cars, large sedans), only a reference scrapping mileage of 600,000 kilometers; while the service life of small and micro taxis is 8 years, and that of public buses is 13 years.
