Chengdu: The recycling rate of scrapped vehicles has reached over 80%
Release time:
12 May,2015
In Chengdu, the scrapping of yellow-label vehicles is handled by professional material recycling companies that dismantle and recycle the scrapped vehicles, with the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce providing strict supervision over the dismantling enterprises. Through efficient dismantling, the resource recovery and utilization rate of the entire scrapped vehicle reaches over 80%.

By the end of next year, Chengdu will complete the elimination of the remaining approximately 90,000 yellow-label vehicles, with most of the scrapped vehicles being dismantled and processed at Chengdu's largest "automobile graveyard"—Chengdu Xingyuan Renewable Resources Investment Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Xingyuan Company"). Recently, a reporter visited Xingyuan Company to observe how scrapped vehicles are dismantled and their resources are reused.
Dismantling one vehicle takes only 10 minutes.
The dismantling workshop is filled with the smell of diesel, gasoline, and plastic, with the roar of machinery. Yue Jun, who is responsible for handling the scrapping procedures for yellow-label vehicles at Xingyuan Company, told the reporter that 50-60% of these vehicles awaiting dismantling are yellow-label vehicles. "With China's vehicles entering their scrapping cycle, coupled with the ban on yellow-label vehicles, the number of scrapped vehicles will increase exponentially. At the same time, there are not many scrapped vehicle recycling points and few dismantling workers, which is the main reason for the emergence of automobile graveyards." The number of scrapped vehicles handled by Xingyuan Company last month has increased by 1,000 compared to the same period last year. "After scrapped yellow-label vehicles enter the company, they must first go through registration, weighing, and information verification. Then, the staff will drain the oil and fluids in workshop one, draining any remaining engine oil, antifreeze, etc. After that, the vehicles will be sent to workshops two and three for dismantling." Yue Jun told the reporter that the dismantling workshop can be considered the "operating room" for scrapped vehicles, where staff will disassemble the vehicles and salvage valuable parts. The reporter saw that the staff would remove the seats, interior trim, rubber belts, and glass from the vehicle. Then, using mechanical tools, they would remove parts such as the engine. Performing such an operation on a vehicle takes about 10 minutes.
Strict Supervision to Prevent Scrapped Parts from Entering the Market
At the operating vehicle disposal site, Yue Jun introduced that scrapped buses, taxis, vans, and other operating vehicles are dismantled here, but the entire dismantling process is different from that of non-operating vehicles. For large buses, medium and above trucks, and operating vehicles, relevant departments will supervise the destruction throughout the process. "This is to prevent the parts of scrapped vehicles from re-entering the market."
It is understood that in Chengdu, the scrapping of yellow-label vehicles is handled by professional material recycling companies that dismantle and recycle the scrapped vehicles, with the Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce providing strict supervision over the dismantling enterprises. Through efficient dismantling, the resource recovery and utilization rate of the entire scrapped vehicle reaches over 80%.
