BASF Heli's Metal Resources Co., Ltd. Pinghu Production Base officially put into operation.

On January 17, the BASF Heraeus Metal Resources Co., Ltd. Pinghu production base, which has attracted significant attention in the precious metal recycling field, was officially put into operation. BASF Heraeus Metal Resources Co., Ltd. is a newly established joint venture between BASF Environmental Catalysts and Metal Solutions and Heraeus Precious Metals, with a registered capital of 160 million yuan, with both parties holding 50% of the shares, located in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province.

On January 17, BASF Heraeus Metal Resources Co., Ltd.'s Pinghu production base, which has attracted much attention in the precious metal recycling field, was officially put into operation. BASF Heraeus Metal Resources Co., Ltd. is a newly established joint venture between BASF Environmental Catalysts and Metal Solutions and Heraeus Precious Metals, with a registered capital of 160 million yuan, each holding 50% of the shares, located in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province. The company covers an area of 32,000 square meters, has more than 100 employees, and an annual waste catalytic converter processing capacity of about 10,000 tons, focusing on recovering platinum group metals from automotive waste catalytic converters.

Zhong Xudong, Secretary of the Pinghu Municipal Party Committee, along with local party and government leaders, Bian Jiang, Vice President and Secretary-General of the Precious Metals Working Committee of the China Material Recycling Association, and guests from BASF Environmental Catalysts and Metal Solutions and Heraeus, as well as representatives from the newly established joint venture's clients and employees, attended the grand opening ceremony themed "Chain Innovation, Circling the Future."

 

 

"The company will utilize BASF Environmental Catalysts and Metal Solutions' pyrometallurgical recovery technology to provide customers with advanced precious metal recovery technology," said Tim Ingle, Global Senior Vice President of Precious Metal Services and Recovery Business at BASF Environmental Catalysts and Metal Solutions. "As one of the largest precious metal consuming countries, China is also the most important market for BASF Environmental Catalysts and Metal Solutions. The new joint venture will promote the recycling of precious metals in China, supporting and assisting customers in reducing their carbon footprint."

 

 

China's platinum group metal resources mainly rely on imports, and precious metal recycling is of great significance for meeting domestic market demand, especially for platinum, palladium, and rhodium, which are widely used in industries such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and automotive. According to market research, China's automotive catalyst recycling market is expected to maintain stable growth at an annual growth rate of 18%. Hu Min, General Manager of Heraeus Precious Metals in China, stated: "The establishment of the joint venture will not only help our partners achieve sustainability and traceability in metal procurement but will also contribute to ensuring the security of the precious metal supply chain in the Chinese market."

 

 

Recycled precious metals can significantly reduce carbon footprints, with recycled precious metals potentially reducing carbon emissions by up to 98% compared to mined precious metals. "The investment in this joint venture is part of Heraeus Precious Metals' global additional investment of 300 million euros to expand recycling capacity in China, Germany, the United States, and other locations," said Marius Vigener, Global Executive Vice President of Heraeus Precious Metals. "The joint venture will take it as its mission to meet the growing demand for low-carbon products from customers, and this commitment to sustainability will benefit not only the two companies but also the platinum group metal recycling industry and downstream industries."
