The Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) yesterday released the 2014 handling of reports received via the "12369" environmental hotline. The number of cases handled in 2014 decreased by 497 compared to 2013. However, the proportion of reports related to air pollution increased instead of decreasing, and the increase was larger than in 2013. The MEP's explanation for the increase in air pollution reports in 2014 is that pollution from water and solid waste is more easily perceived as air pollution; investigations revealed that 64% of cases with environmental violations involved actual air pollution.

The notice indicates that the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has upgraded the "China Imported Waste and Raw Materials Pre-shipment Inspection Electronic Management System (PSI System)". The new system will be officially launched on May 16, 2015. According to the newly upgraded PSI system, starting from May 16, 2015, all inspections must strictly follow the new regional management regulations. The location of cargo inspection must be consistent with the inspection agency, and on-site inspections will be cancelled in principle.
